The brick keeper’s house at the mouth of Esopus Creek has been marking the shallows since 1869 and now runs as a living museum with rooms for the night. Getting there is the part nobody forgets: a half-mile walk through the Ruth Reynolds Clunt Nature Preserve on a path the Hudson floods at high tide, which is why the conservancy publishes a tide chart and expects you to check it before setting out with a bag.
