Inside the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, a small chamber is porcelain from floor to ceiling — walls, moldings, even the light fixture. Between 1760 and 1765, the Buen Retiro factory’s Giuseppe Gricci modeled every surface into white porcelain reliefs of monkeys, dragons, and robed Chinese figures, then topped it with a chandelier shaped like a palm tree, a monkey climbing the trunk after the man already scaling it.
