Twenty-eight small cottages washed in soft colours run about 330 feet through the middle of Aarhus, hollyhocks climbing the walls out of the cobblestones. The stillness is the surprise. The lane predates the 1200s and may follow a path laid in the Viking Age, and for most of its life it sat at the city’s edge, where Aarhus put the people it had no other use for. Now it is the prettiest street in town.
