Jimbōchō holds more than 100 used bookstores; Jason Kottke worked through 20-30 of them and kept coming back to four. Kitazawa sells English titles, including a 1940s Hemingway, shelved beneath hand-lettered notes asking you to hold each book with both hands. Komiyama keeps a cache of 90s Raygun magazines and a Larry Clark-signed Kids poster, while Ohya Shobu deals only in Edo- and Meiji-era books, woodblock prints, and an antique map of the city filling its window.
