Built in 1873 for the Craven Lime Company at Langcliffe, near Settle, this Hoffmann continuous kiln burned limestone in a slow circuit through 22 chambers, each firing lit in sequence so the kiln never went cold — a single loop took about six weeks before the site closed for good in 1939. It’s the most structurally intact Hoffmann kiln left in England, and the ruins sit inside a free conservation area off the B6479 with a car park and a signed, self-guided trail past the kiln’s brick archways and the smaller draw kilns nearby.
