Every Advent since 1966, three tonnes of straw go up as a 13-metre Yule Goat in Slottstorget, Gävle, with a webcam running the whole time it stands. Forty-three of the sixty built have been destroyed or damaged — the first burned at midnight on New Year’s Eve 1966, one was rammed by a car, and the 2023 goat was simply picked apart by jackdaws. The town builds it again.
