At the tiny US research base of Palmer Station, someone took the least scenic structure around — a squat black fuel tank — and painted a breaching orca across it in white and gray, banked by a jagged iceberg and the station’s name in bold letters. It’s the first thing incoming ships see rounding the point, and the closest thing Antarctica’s smallest station has to a skyline.
