Robbie Tilton built Compositor to get off his Adobe subscription, then gave it away: layers and folders, layer and clipping masks, Curves and Levels as adjustment layers, Clone Stamp, Spot Healing, a Content-Aware Fill that can extend an image past its edges, and Photoshop’s own keyboard shortcuts throughout. It opens 8-bit PSDs with folders and masks intact, and the signed, notarized download is 8 MB. Six days on GitHub and 4,500 stars; MIT-licensed, macOS 26.5 or later.
