On the night of 14 April 1912, Thomas Bartlett was on shift at the Marconi station here and became the first Canadian to take in the Titanic’s distress call. The station stopped operating in 1922 and is a family home now. The lighthouse next to it has been lit since 1881, throws its beam fourteen miles, and for a small fee you can climb to the lantern room and look across the Northumberland Strait to Nova Scotia.
