Most mechanical pencils have one spring and break lead anyway, because the two ways you snap it are different problems. The DelGuard solves both: press down too hard and a spring in the barrel lets the lead sink back rather than shear; lean it over and a second spring at the tip slides a metal guard out around the lead. Three lead sizes, and it costs less than a sandwich.
