The Wavy Window Paradox

Why office glass ripples from outside and not from inside

The Wavy Window Paradox

Office towers reflect the city back as a funhouse mirror, every pane bowed. Stand inside the same window and the view is flat. Henry Reich’s answer is that reflection and refraction don’t punish a curved surface equally: a slight bow throws the reflected image wildly off, while the light passing straight through barely notices. The glass was never flat. You only see it from one side.
