Veracity

Truthfulness or accuracy, and something true

Veracity — truthfulness or accuracy, or a truth itself — comes from Latin verax (truthful), from verus (true), with earliest documented use in 1614. It closes the “A change of character: Act I” week beside Gérôme’s Truth Coming Out of Her Well (1896), which alludes to Democritus: “Of truth we know nothing, for truth is in a well.”
