Version 5.0 of John Brayton’s RSS reader changes how it makes a thumbnail: instead of cropping to the centre, it finds faces, animals, text and other salient parts of the image and keeps them, zooms in when there is one small point of focus, and pads the whole picture into frame when nothing can be cut. Also new: FreshRSS and Miniflux accounts, so you can subscribe, unsubscribe and mark-read-on-scroll from inside the app. iPhone, iPad and Mac; a free download, with premium at $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year.
