The Wedge

A 5,500-square-foot blackened-wood-and-concrete chalet in Whistler by Battersby Howat Architects, built for a family of snowboarders — its geometric form rises from a forested two-acre plot bisected by the Green River, whose rush is constant white noise. Hemlock ceilings warm the brutalist shell, 40-foot glass doors open to a pool and hot tub, and a cantilevered studio hangs over the riverbank, 18 minutes from the slopes.
