The Tree and the River

One tree, one river, not a single word

The Tree and the River

Becker fixes the frame on one tree and one river and lets the centuries run: bridges, a city, a war, ruins, and the tree carrying on doing what a tree does. On one spread a stag drinks while the water reflects towers and airships that are nowhere in the landscape above them. Not a word in it — a four-year-old and an adult read at the same speed and then disagree about what happened.
