Willi Midelfart composed Det gror, the painting of fjord bathers that fills the end wall of Oslo City Hall’s banquet hall, around a single kitchen door. When a second door was cut through his wall, he had to repaint parts of the picture, and he painted in a small boy who points at the newcomer and sticks out his tongue.
