A WebAssembly port of pdfTeX does the compiling, so the .tex file never leaves the machine and a rebuild lands in one to five seconds. Common packages ship with the app; the rest of CTAN loads from a TeX Live mirror on first use, then caches — after which it works with the network switched off. The limits are stated plainly: pdfTeX only, no XeTeX or LuaTeX, no biber.
