Sunset Cliffs Open Ceiling Cave

A roofless sea cave with stairs you climb down at San Diego's Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs Open Ceiling Cave

Sunset Cliffs is the bluff on the west side of Point Loma. The Open Ceiling Cave is a partially-collapsed sea cave whose roof fell away, leaving a cylindrical opening to the sky framing a tidal pool below. A short rocky scramble at low tide gets you down; the photogenic moment is the sun lighting up the cave walls through the opening. Tide-dependent — check the tide chart.
