An overly inquisitive person, or the verb for prying into other people’s business — mostly heard in Australia and New Zealand. It divides as stick (Old English stician, to pierce or thrust) plus beak, old slang for the human nose; English could have settled for stickynose and didn’t. Documented since 1914, with two crisp k sounds that make the nosiness sound doubly deliberate.
