Steve Ovett's Foot

All that survives of a stolen statue of an Olympic champion — a single bronze foot

Steve Ovett's Foot

In 1987, Preston Park in Brighton got a bronze statue of Olympic middle-distance runner Steve Ovett, mid-stride in the pose that won him gold. Thieves made off with it, leaving only the right foot bolted to its plinth. A replacement statue was later installed elsewhere in town, but the orphaned foot still stands where the original once ran.
