Spotlight will silently decline to index a plain text file whose first two characters happen to be LG — and the same goes for ones starting HPA or Draw. The cause is misidentification, and SpotTest 1.3 finally shows it: drop a file on the window and it reports what mdimport, mdls and the file(1) command each think the thing is, so the disagreement is visible instead of mysterious.
