Socotra’s dragon’s-blood trees — many three centuries old, with crowns that spread like inverted umbrellas — form forests in canyon walls most stunning under the Milky Way, on an island that harbors species found nowhere else and earns its ‘Galápagos of the Arabian Sea’ name. Frankincense fields, bottle trees, and the white sandbars of Qalansiyah Lagoon fill the rest. The younger trees are now endangered by feral goats and drought.
