Architect Janko Konstantinov built the telecommunications wing in 1974 as part of Kenzo Tange’s plan to rebuild Skopje after the 1963 earthquake, raising a lotus-shaped concrete dome on flared, rib-like buttresses meant to read as the city’s rebirth. An arson fire in September 2013 destroyed the original glazing and Borko Lazeski’s interior murals; the concrete held, but the dome has never been restored. The complex was declared protected cultural heritage in 2022.
