A short trail off Pine Point Road follows an abandoned road into the marsh, running alongside a canal dug during the American Revolution to hide ships from the British. The other layers are underfoot too: Indigenous hunting and trapping grounds, salt hay cut for livestock, tidal gates and ditches cut to reshape the water, and a twentieth-century proposal to make the whole thing the town dump.
