GarageBand’s musical typing maps the QWERTY keys to a piano, which means a chord changes shape in every key — the thing that makes the first year hard. This lays them out like a bass guitar instead: four rows, each a fourth apart, each key one chromatic step sideways. Hit C, and the octave is two rows up and one across, forever. Space is the sustain pedal, the arrow keys bend pitch and shift octaves.
