Nerikomi builds the pattern into the clay itself: coloured slabs are stacked, rolled and sliced, so the mottle on Nabila Nareswari’s Iris cups runs right through the wall, shows on the inside too, and none of it is glaze. She says no other work of hers takes as much patience — a cup is “one thing after another, after another,” and about two months. The Iris run sold out within days; earlier mugs are in stock from Indonesia at around $175, and the next Iris batch takes pre-orders for December.
