An Epson thermal printer in the author’s kitchen wakes before he does and prints one piece of character art — 80mm wide, never printed before — with a short verse underneath, built from the day’s forecast, season and headlines. Once in a while a print answers the one before it: a single scout rocket climbing on July 3, the whole sky answering on July 4. When the cutter drops, the edition is out.
