Low-FPS Spinners

This page argues that spinners animating at 60fps waste GPU for no visual benefit, then proves it with eight designs — ray rings, dot rings, ticking clocks — each running at an adjustable 1 to 30 changes per second. Chromium GPU usage drops from roughly 50% to 3-8% on a 2017 laptop once a smooth spin becomes a stepped one. The page uses no JavaScript, and its CSS is public domain, free to copy into your own project.
