A Muybridge horse that only animates at 40 mph

Liberation Mural

Hervey Garcia painted the frames of Muybridge’s 1878 “The Horse in Motion” along a road in Indio, spaced so that passing at 35 to 45 mph flips them into animation. The horse gallops, stretches, becomes a winged Pegasus, and finally lifts off as a bird against a starry sky. Stand still and it is a row of panels; the artwork only exists at speed.
