The wartime 501, caught between two eras of itself

Levi's Vintage Clothing 1942 501

In 1942 US rationing rules reached the 501: logos came off the buttons, legs narrowed to save fabric, and the back cinch was on its way out. Levi’s Vintage Clothing has reissued that in-between pair — cinch back still present, hidden rivets, the yoke seam running inverted — in thick Japanese selvedge. Limited numbers, US and Japan only at launch. Within a few years the original had become a different garment entirely.
