In 1932, nine-year-old Lennie Gwyther had just spent months running the family farm alone while his father recovered from a broken leg. As a reward, he rode his pony Ginger Mick some 600 miles from Leongatha, Victoria, to Sydney to watch the Harbour Bridge open — and became a national celebrity along the way. A bronze statue of the pair now stands in his hometown.
