Founded in 1858 by Josef Kniže, a tailor out of Bohemia, and by the 1920s dressing Marlene Dietrich in tails and Billy Wilder in everything else. Rudolf Niedersüß started at Knize in 1956, left, bought a rival house, then bought Knize itself in 1976 and merged the two. He is still there. Bernhard Roetzel went to Vienna to ask what survives of the legend, which is the only way to find out.
