Klattsch

A speech synthesizer that operates on phonemes, not spelling

Most text-to-speech engines hide their phoneme layer behind English-spelling rules. Klattsch exposes it: type IPA-ish phonemes, hear the formant-synthesized result. Built on Klatt synthesis (the 1980s DECtalk-era model used by Stephen Hawking’s voice), now in the browser. For linguists and anyone who has wondered why “Daring” doesn’t sound like “Caring.”
