Enormous illuminated puppets go down the streets of Siem Reap after dark, lit from inside and lifted on poles by the children who built them. The Giant Puppet Project started in 2007 as an art therapy programme for children in vulnerable situations, and it quietly doubles as an apprenticeship — puppet-making is real artisan work in Cambodia, and the parade is where a year of it goes public.
