A long cold snap froze stretches of the Baltic Sea off northern Germany, then a swell moved in underneath without breaking the surface. Photographer Jan Erik Waider flew a drone over the result: a thin ice sheet cracked into a mosaic of polygon slabs, each one rocking independently as the water rolls beneath it, like a screen built from broken glass that never separates.
