Folding Train Sink

The sleeper-car basin, still cast in iron and porcelain

Folding Train Sink

Sleeper cars had no room for a basin that stayed out, so Pullman-era railcar designers hinged one into the wall — down to wash, up and gone. Air and car travel edged out the sleeper car by the 1960s and the sinks went with it. Watermark Fixtures still casts replicas in iron and porcelain, which is the fixture a bathroom the width of a corridor has been waiting for.
