The 1984 A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott was shot in Shrewsbury, and for the graveyard scene the crew took an old stone whose inscription had long since weathered away and cut EBENEZER SCROOGE into it. Nobody removed the prop, so it still lies flat in the grass beyond the yew tree in St Chad’s churchyard, cracked across the middle, a fictional death with a real slab. Free to visit, and easy to miss unless you know to look down.
