Georgians call this holy-mountain shrine “Karugdebeli” — “door-thrown-off” — because as long as anyone can remember, no door installed here has survived, leaving it open to visitors around the clock. The first shrine on the site dates to the 7th or 8th century CE, and local legend reads the missing doors as divine intervention rather than vandalism.
