'Cross-legged' statue

A bronze of the man who sat down in Pristina while a crowd ran

In 1990, as police dispersed protesters waiting for a visiting US Senate delegation, Faik Rexhepi sat down cross-legged and stayed put while others fled; Hazir Reka’s photograph made it famous. Sculptor Eliza Shala cast the scene in bronze, installed in November 2022 on Zahir Pajaziti Square, near where the photo was taken. Rexhepi said he stayed to show the place belonged to Albanians.
