Sixty years before “data visualization” was a job title, Bucky Fuller and John McHale made this silent film: human population from 1000 BCE forward, projected onto Fuller’s Dymaxion world map (which preserves continental shape better than Mercator). The clock ticks; the map fills with light; transportation and communication breakthroughs surface as technology markers; the curve goes vertical near the end.
