Blue Whale of Catoosa

55-foot concrete whale on Route 66, Oklahoma

Blue Whale of Catoosa

Hugh Davis built it in the early 1970s as a 34th-anniversary gift to his wife, who collected whale figurines. It became the swimming hole for the local town and is now one of the most visited stops on Route 66 east of Tulsa. Free to walk through; the right kind of monument because it was made for one specific person and accidentally became a destination.
