Greens, yellows, reds and pinks, packed so densely up the trunk and out along the branches that from underneath the whole thing scans as a lighting installation — until the circular entrance holes resolve and you realise every one of them is a nest box. Nobody has established who started it or when. It has simply been photographed in the Esplanāde since at least 2022, while the city’s park crews keep the boxes repaired.
