A mailed arm bursts from a cloud holding a sword, with the motto “Vince aut morire” (conquer or die), painted in silver and gold on crimson silk damask woven with pomegranates. The library calls it the oldest complete flag known in the US. It was already antique at Concord in 1775, and whether it was carried there is disputed. The flag is displayed at Bedford Free Public Library, Massachusetts.
