Built in the Waechter yards near Antwerp in 1952 and christened Bestiole, she is a Freycinet — the 38.5-by-5-metre gauge the 1879 French canal standard imposed on the whole country, which is why she fits everywhere and looks like nothing else. Now she holds 200 square metres over two decks: four cabins each with their own bathroom, a sixty-metre artist’s workshop below, and a teak platform on top with a small pool. Moored on the Rhône at Île Piot, looking at the Palais des Papes. €330,000.
