Quake, playable in a browser, drawn as a live grid of ASCII characters — no WebGL and no canvas element, just a renderer called GlyphCSS rewriting preformatted text as fast as the frame rate demands. Open the inspector while you play and the level scrolls past as ordinary DOM content you could select with a cursor. The remarkable part is that a shambler is still unmistakably a shambler at that resolution.
