Roll back to a macOS snapshot without Time Machine

tmutil snapshot before risky changes; Recovery + Time Machine to roll back

Roll back to a macOS snapshot without Time Machine

sudo tmutil snapshot makes an APFS point-in-time copy of the boot volume in seconds; if a system update or kernel-extension experiment goes sideways, Recovery mode’s Time Machine restore can roll back to it without ever touching an external drive. Howard Oakley is careful to note this isn’t a backup substitute — rolling back deletes every later snapshot — but for a laptop on the road it’s a one-line safety net.
