Ali Hill's Embroidered Buildings

Architecture drawn once by hand, then again by sewing machine

Ali Hill's Embroidered Buildings

Ali Hill draws a building in full detail onto fabric — brick courses, window bars, downpipes — and then runs the sewing machine along every single line she drew until the drawing has become thread. Free-motion stitching gives the elevations a slight nervous wobble that no printer would permit and no ruled drawing would have. She sells prints of the finished pieces.
