A Matter of Form

A single point multiplies into a full geometric ballet, set to Schubert

A Matter of Form

Every shape in this 1984 short grows from the same seed: a single point, multiplying and reconfiguring into lines, grids, and splashes of color until it fills the frame. René Jodoin, who ran the National Film Board of Canada’s animation studio for decades, built it — one of four films he made as introductions to geometry — from precise mathematical calculations, then set the results to Schubert’s Military March.
